Trying to escape his oppressive reality through his dreams Lucas, a young man, navigates between a domineering mother and a sister who reclaims the kidney she donated to him as a child. The family’s interactions are explosively funny and heartfelt, and the ending will leave audiences breathless. One of Argentina’s leading contemporary playwrights, Spregelburd’s language takes us to the most absurd places as if they were the most natural. “Like the best of Alain Robbe-Grillet, Spregelburd’s writing,” states Carrasquillo, “is ‘phenomenological.” Using repetitions that are methodical and geometric, Spregelburd reveals the inner self of the characters. In the repetition of moments, the ruptures in those reoccurring incidents, and the attention to odd details, Spregelburd’s approach resembles the experience of psychoanalysis that he cleverly spoofs in Lúcido.” Rafael Spregelburd is a playwright, director, actor, and translator who lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. José Carrasquillo is entering his third decade of directing for regional theaters.
